Roberts, W. J.

W. J. ROBERTS, first vice president of the Traylor Engineering and Manufacturing Company, was born in North Wales on January 4, 1883. At the age of three years he came to America with his parents, settled in Chicago, where he was reared. lie was graduated from the grammar schools, took a two-year course in the high school, and a special course in the Lewis Institute on Engineering.

His first business connection was in the manufacturing and selling of mining machinery. To broaden his experience in this line of work he went to Colorado and got practical experience in mining and milling and was assistant manager of one of the mines there. In 1907 he accepted a position as sales engineer for the Traylor Engineering and Manufacturing Company, of Allentown, and was for quite a few years located in New York City. He traveled extensively through all the western states and from northern British Columbia to southern Mexico. In rapid succession he was promoted to the position of assistant sales manager, sales manager, second vice president and later first vice president. In addition to his connection with the Traylor Engineering and Manufacturing Company, he is vice president and director of the Cement Gun Company! Inc., and the American representative of the Colorado Mining Company, which operates gold mines in the Philippine Islands. He is a member of the Allentown Lodge of Elks, the Lehigh Country Club and the Aero Club of America. In 1907 Mr. Roberts married Clara R. Hayward, of Chicago, Ill.
