Wyant, William Whitfield - M. D.

William Whitfield Wyant, M. D.—A skillful, popular and prosperous physician of South Sharon, William W. Wyant, M. D., is distinguished as being the very first to begin the practice of medicine in this section of Mercer county, and, likewise, as being one of the foremost men of his profession in the neighborhood. He was born May 20, 1873, in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania, which was also the birthplace of his parents, Christian Yerty and Elizabeth (John) Wyant, and of his paternal grandfather, Adam Wyant. He comes on the Wyant side of German descent, and on the maternal side of Welsh ancestry, being a grandson of Martin John, whose family originated in Wales.

One of a family of six living children, William W. Wyant was brought up on a farm, and received his elementary education in the district schools of Armstrong county. He subsequently continued his studies at the Mount Pleasant Academy, and in 1900 was graduated from the Medical College of the Western Pennsylvania University, at Pitts- burg. Coming soon after receiving his diploma to Mercer county, Dr. Wyant was the very first physician, as before mentioned, to locate in South Sharon. Opening an office in the first building erected in the town, he still retains it, and as one of the pioneer citizens of the place has been prominently identified with its development and progress.

Dr. Wyant married, in 1904, Rachael Saunders, of Mercer county. Politically he is an ardent Republican, and fraternally he is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and of the Knights of Pythias. He is active in medical circles, belonging to the Mercer County Medical Society, and to the American Medical Association. He is supreme medical examiner of the Guardians of America. Both he and his wife are members of the Baptist church, and generous contributors towards its support.
